My front loader pump seal leaks..... I am sure it is a dearborn loader....this pump has no name on it...but it is exactly like the one shown in the dearborn manual..I tried a generic seal but it did not work for long.....this pump has a woodruff keyed drive....top mounting bolts....rounded back with drain plug....low side clamp on hose.... 3/4" hi pressure outlet....this pump must be fairly common on the old 9n/2n/8n front loader.....my pump is good it just leaks.... I need a new seal or a new pump....do you guys know who may have one????

Thanks

Gus

Funny you should mention it. I had the exact problem with mine this week. Same pump. I took mine to a local tractor shop Nouthwest Parts in Kalispell, MT. They replaced the seal, cleaned it up and made up new hoses for both sides for $55.00. Not bad, I was expecting worse. From the way they were talking, most any shop should be able to de the job. If you would like, e-mail me and I'll try to get the part number from the seal (it's out in the shop).

Noops:

If you have the original pump(like shown in the manual)it's probably a Vickers vane pump. The guys in this link can exchange your pump, rebuild it, or send you parts.

The tech dept. is very helpful figuring out what you have & what you need, if you're not sure.

Not a salesman for them, just used them for a couple of rebuilds.

You might be able to match it up with one of these and just get a new one.

K.Larue,
I looked through surplus center and other sites, I have found that most of these are face mounted pumps, which would require bracket redesign. The pump I have has two bolt holes in the top for the mounting.
To change out the pump would requre different brackets because the line up of the drive shaft going in the front engine pully is critical.
I am hoping to reseal this pump or get another like it???

I looked before I sent the previous message and you are correct, most of the pumps on the first page were face mounted, but unless my eyes were crossed it seems like there was something like 9 pages with 10 or 15 pumps on a page. I didn't look at any of the other pages, but it seemed like with that many to choose from you might find something that would work. Figured it was worth a shot.

Noops, If the pump has no visable markings on it I would take it to your local hydraulic shop and see if they may know what make it is and be able to supply you a rebuild kit for it. If not that they could at least supply you with the seals bearings etc that are common to most of them. HTH

Coldiron,
I did that, nobody here in Colorado springs knows the make. I put a generic seal in it and it worked for a while but now it is starting to spit fluid...
The old seal fit real tight and it was a bugger to get it out. It was made in the shape of a U with rubber and spring inside the U.
The seal I put in is in the shape of an L with the spring around the grove in the rubber.
My guess is when the old seal was seated it extruded the rubber and made a tight seal.
I do not believe the new seal can hold against the internal hydraulic pressure and it lets the oil seep past.
These are things I am learning as I go I am no expert on hydraulic pump seals. I now assume that they must fit tight to old up against the pressure from the fluid???

Were there any numbers on the old seal that would allow a cross-reference check, or did you match it up by size?

Generally, there is very little pressure on pump seals, unless there is excessive bearing wear, or other wear in the pump.

I would say you either need to find a seal more like the original, and/or check your pump for excessive wear.

Thanks Bob,
Good info....Yes this old pump has plenty wear.

The old seal was wore through on the outside where the thrust washer rubbed it.....

It was in bad shape by the time I got it out.....

I shore wished I had checked it for numbers on the inside though..... .....
