Worth of old parts?

I have and axle with stripped threads and a radiator with a couple of small punctures.

What should I do with these? Take them to the metal recycler? That axle is HEAVY, and the radiator isn't cheap to fix, which is why I replaced it.

I don't think either of the parts are original, though the radiator is the slope-sided "old style", so it may be. It's not square like the aftermarket replacements.

(Please don't construe this as a classified ad. I am not posting these items for sale here, I am wondering if there is any worth in selling them)

Good idea on both axle & radiator. If you're not into soldering, you can use jb weld or epoxy(dabbed on or spread w/ a toothpic). Keep it as a spare.

Repaired mine last spring w/ epoxy & it held up thru the hot Texas summer.

If the axle is still good enough to use a 2-part squeezum nut, then i would wipe the think down with a healthy coating of cheapy axle grease, and wrap it in an old piece of cloth.. like bedsheet scrap.. linnen.. canvas.. etc. That put that in a big yard size garbage bag.. tie off.. then roll with masking tape to make it compact.. then toss it inthe attic. if you ever loose an axle in your 8n all you need to do hopefully is buy a 15$ nut and slide the sucker out of mothballs..

For the radiator.. why not expirement with soldering it. Any plumbers solder kit will work. Tank repairs are easy.. tube repairs are from difficult to challenging.. May have to carefully cut a few fins to get to a pinhole. then solder.. or if hole is bad.. cut tube cleanly.. crimp flat, roll, and then solder... still an excelent backup even with a tube or two crimped.

To store.. wash it out drain and dry, cut cardboard to cover the fins.. then wrap in more scrap cloth.. bag and tape... Again.. this might take a couple hours to fix.. but alter on will save you 200$ if your current radiator up and dies.

Good advice about the radiator. I have an old jeep that someone had merely cut away some of the heat fins and then just cut, and folded the water channels (no solder at all) and it was water tight and still no problem after several years. I'm not familiar with the squeezum nut. JMHO...Ron

It's a 2-part 'repair' nut that is ok to use on axles with some bad threads.. etc.
