I got a small Ford model #ST 220 snow blower with a #1593 Tecumseh two-stroke engine. I bought it a year ago at a garage sale and am doing a tune up before the snow flies. Cannot figure how (or if) to install an air filter. I can only see the carb through slits in a rigid plastic cover and to remove the cover is a major undertaking. Looking into the slits, I can see the small square air intake, but it doesn't appear to have any filter at all. Surely they never meant for this to run without one. I am sure that this blower is a re-badge and was not made by Ford or New Holland. Thought I might contact a New Holland dealer tomorrow anyway if no one on this great board has a similar one and can offer info. Thanks....Ron

snow blowers dont have air cleaners for two reasons. 1) there's not really a whole lot of dust when everything is frozen and
2) the air cleaner would pack full of snow/ice and chokes it out so it wont run.

usually there's just a box around it and thats it...hope that helps

Small engines on snowblowers generally have no air filter. I assume that's because they would plug up with snow, and "flood" the engine. You're not supposed to be using it in dust anyway!!!

Air filter on a snowblower? I"m no expert, but can"t remember seeing one on a snowblower. Just picked up a 62" kabota and no filter on that either.(grin) Seriously though, can"t remember seeing one on a snowmobile either. I would think the snow would get sucked into the filter and just get wet. Not much dust flying around when its snowing. Craig
