Well, I was installing new brakes on my 8N and one of the springs cut loose and the hook of the spring went right through my index finger. Man did that hurt! That's the first time my 8N drew blood...pretty good considering the refurbish is almost done. I have since found a safer (and easier) way to install the springs. Be careful out there! -JohnJ

What kind of primer and paint are you using? Are you spraying it on? Looks great!

I'm using Rustoleum grey primer (brush on) and Rustoleum Sunrise Red (both brush on and spray can). I used the primer on everything (including the engine). The head and head bolts were powder coated and the manifold was ceramic coated. I have about 3 hours on the engine and no paint peel or discoloration on anything (yet). -JohnJ

It's beautiful, John! I'm sorry to hear it "got" your finger, though. I'm thinking those springs are under a lot more tension than I realized!

The freeze plugs still bulge out a bit. I was afraid to hit them too hard (scared I might crack the block). All OK ..no leaks. Didn't use any sealer on the freeze plugs or on the oil fittings. You will not crack the block iffin ya hit’em to much actually you will make the plug fit to loose iffin ya hit’em to much. That’s the way ya git’em out izz drive the center in till it frees up. I would have put sum sealer on'em but thats yer call, Nice job look'in good
In my first years Of mechanic‘in I had to git stich’izz quite a few times, now I git a few scrat‘izz now and again. My doctor had a nick name I gave’em Dr. Infect cuzz enny time he stiched me up it got infected had to be him cuzz the grease and dirt could not have had enny thing to do with it.

Beautiful pix. I marvel at what some of you guys do in restoring, I just mow the field with mine...

RE: "I wish the aftermarket manifold had an 8N part number instead of the 9N. Oh well."

I don't know about THIS particular part, but an awful lot of the 8N parts are actually "9N" part numbers, it's not necessarily an indication of some kind of mismatch.
