The 8N that I have will startup w/oil pressure of around 45psi after about 5 minutes of idling, it wil go down to 20psi. No matter what I do after that, grading my trails, using a dirt scoop, the pressure wil remian at 15-20psi.
Is this normal? I had a 641 workmaster tat stayed at 40-45.

Second question; I have an oil leak atthe front of the 8N. Any suggestions on the cause? I have purchased maunauls and vieos on how to repair the engines.

How big a job is it to stop the leak?

I would like to repaint the tractor to the original colors. Winter project:)

As far as the leak it depends on where its comeing from. Also depends on if its a frount mount dist or a side mount. If the leak is the fronk crank seal you almost have to pull the front of the tractor off to get to it. Ifs its from a cover then thats just replaceing a gasket.

It is a front mount dist.
It appears to be from the front of the tractor.
WhenI got the tractor earlier this summer, I noticed the leak and thought it may be from the fron of the oil pan. Al the bolts were loose and I tightened them back up. It cleared up some of the leaking bit I still have a small drip on the bottom, engine side of the governor.

Patrick..... ...leaky around the governor side. WARPED governor cup flange. The aluminum governor flange is eazy to warp and just as eazy to flatten by sanding on a mirror or old window glass. Do it in figger-8's. Re-stall with new governor gasket. Pay attention here: SHORT-BOLT in top..... ...Dell

That maybe the governor cover gasket then or it could also still be the oil pan and if so you will need to replace the gasket.

Your oil pump in the 8N is not as robust as the one in the Hundreds Series - that is the reason for the decreased pressure. 15-20 psi on a hot 8N engine is pretty good oil pressure. Many run just fine with only 5 psi.

The front engine leak is probably the front oil seal on your crank shaft. Not too awfully difficult to fix, most usually just wait until rebuild time. Your manuals and video will show how to replace these.

Good luck,
Dan
