My 2N just blew the radiator. I haven't look at it yet to see the condition. Would you take it to a radiator shop for repair or purchase a new one?

I am going to pull it today and check it out. I got a feeling it is one of those cheap forign units. Thanks for all the advice, it really helped.

Wow! Judging from all the comments on new radiators for the N, I guess I made a good decision to have mine repaired at the local radiator shop instead of looking for a new one.

Interesting thread.

Rick

I bought my radiator last year from this sight's (Yesterday's Tractors): A true red, white, & blue RASA radiator. It is now aorund $131.00. This was a good investment. I have been well pleased and wish I had done this sooner and saved all the solder I used on the original.

I purchased a new Radiator from a very well known online 8N Tractor site. It was a piece of "Made in China" garbage. I couldn't even use it; so I ended up getting my old one repaired for around $50.00 bucks and it works great. I only wish I'd done that to begin with. Boycott these places that insist on selling us this overseas junk.

I always ask first: Who's the best.
For my satisfaction: I always insist that the manufacturer only make radiatiors to fill-in when the slow period comes around, seasonally.

For my N, I chose "halstead MITCHELL"!
They test theirs to 40,000 pounds, water pressure. They also make the tractor radiators for MANY imported tractors. However, their "real" radiators are in many US factories, here!

So, it is getting tougher to find a good NEW ONE.

Russ, My radiator started leaking last year. I pulled it out and took it to a local radiator shop. Cost me $50 to get it fixed. I've seen and read way to many horror stories about cheap replacements for N's. Don't fit, bolt holes wrong, leak right away, had to modify. Does not seem worth it to me. If you have yours fixed you know what you have and you know it will fit. Good luck.

The shop, by all means. You will be much better off, IMHO, by having an originial radiator repaired than buying a new one. If it is beyond repair, ask the folks on this board for recommendations. I've heard of some poorly made radiators being sold for N's; I'm sure that there good ones for sale though. Ask first! I haven't had to repair or replace one yet, but I'm sure my time is coming.

I got one from New Holland for my 8N that fit and worked good for $139.. not sure how different that is from a 2N radiator though..
