Well I took the radiator to the local shop and he found the "problems". It seems the core was stopped up with about a pound of dirt, seeds, and etc. which must have caused the explosion. He repaired and cleaned core for just $45.00. I spent about that again for new thermostate, cap, hoses, and anti-freeze.
I'm getting real good taking off the gas tank hood. It is all together again and running good.
Thanks everyone for the help

Glad to hear the shop fix worked. I can't figure out how you got that much junk in the radiator. If you do not have it all back together yet, you might want to fill it up w/o the thermostat and w/ water & a gallon of vinegar; run it until the engine gets hot then turn it off & let it sit over night. Then, drain it all out the next day. It will flush your block out. Don't forget to use distilled water & only add enough anti-freeze/water at 50/50 to cover the core of the radiator. That's about 11 quarts. Don't forget to put the thermostat back in!

My 2N didn't have a thermostat when I got it a year ago. It worked fine without it. I put one in it and it still works the same so what's the point????

The point is that the engine is operating at an uneven temperture. That's why it has a thermostat. When the engine gets to it's designed operating temp, the thermostat opens. Your engine is hot in one end & cold in the other. It will not wear evenly or operate a peak efficency. You will not notice a difference in one month or six months, but you will in a year or two.

I forgot to ask, how in the world did that much debry get into the radiator? I even flushed it a few weeks ago.
