About a week ago, I posted here because I didn't think my ol' 8N had any spark. Well after a whole lot of worry, replacing coil, tracing wires, buying new points and condenser and charging up the battery, I found out what was wrong. My charger would shut off and show the battery was charged when it wasn't. Bought a new charger, put some juice in the battery, and fired it right up. Maybe this a lesson to somebody else like me that doesn't know much about tractors, but want to learn. Thanks for the help everybody - I learned a lot about the tractor from the tips you gave me.

dont feel bad, I almost thought my battery was dead as well, I took it out charged it up , the next day put it back in the tractor I got 3 cranks out of here and dead,, well went to my other 8n, took out the good battery, went to the woods to split some wood, I thought to put the battery back on charge one more time before bringing it back to tsc, ,went to leave the barn, shut off the lites,,and see the charger blinking turned lites back o n reset charger, turn lites off same thing, then turned lites off and reset, stayed charging,, must have been the change in current or something, this is a newer craftsman charger, I wish tey would leave well enough alone and keep the things that work working, good luck with the tractor.pat

PawPaw..... ..thanks for follow-up. We can only offer helpful suggestions when we fully understand the "problem". Sometimes we "assume" that such basic items like charged battery is really charged. BTDT..... ...Dell

Sort of funny how a dead battery or bad connections will keep one from running. Glad to here you got the old girl back running so you can play LOL

I realize those 'new fangled' chargers have some neat features.. but sometimes I like the plain old transformer/rectifier versions.. that just 'charge/boost'...
