As I stated in an earlier post my 50 8n spun over 3-4 times then only the solenoid clicked, then nothing. I have voltage at the right places, replaced the solenoid tried grounding the middle wire of the solenoid, tried grounding at the starter button and still nothing so I had the starter rebuilt and now still nothing. Is there something special way to install the starter and can I check it before I put it on to eliminate the starter as the problem? I am also limited as for some reason the search function on this board isn't working. Thanks for any help.

As Dell says, it sounds like the starter is the problem, regardless of the fact that it's been rebuilt. Take it back to the rebuilder and have them bench test it there to prove to you it works. If they can't, then they'll have to make it right. If they can demonstrate that it works, then you'll know to look somewhere else for the problem.
I fried my starter (it blew up internally) and had to get a new one. Put it on and nothing! It occurred to me that when the starter shorted, it might have taken out the coil with it. Replaced the coil myself and bingo, everything was fine!

Neubie..... ...did you remember to mount yer 3-terminal starter solenoid so the little middle terminal is hard to gitt-too? (facing the engine block?) Do you have voltage at yer little middle terminal? Prove IT!!! Remember yer roundcan 3-treminal starter solenoid is internally HOT and is operated by grounding the little middle terminal by yer BIG thumb button by yer tranny shifter.

Iff'n you can make yer starter solenoid operated by grounding the little terminal, then check yer wiring to the BIG thumb button, ground it at the tranny shifter. Iff'n it makes yer starter motor spin, then yer BIG thumb button is bad and you will haffta take the top of yer tranny off to replace it.

Did I remember to remind you that ALL TESTS must be done with tranny in NEUTRAL? ..... ..Dell

I have the solenoid mounted correctly so that the middle wire is hard to get to, I have voltage at the middle wire just like the voltage at the connection to the battery end of the solenoid and I get voltage on the starter end of the solenoid when I push the starter button in. I tried grounding the middle solenoid wire and also tried grounding the starter button with no success. It just seems that if I have voltage at those points the starter should turn over so I am still concerned with how to eliminate the starter. Thanks.

Sounds like you have a not so clean, brite, and tite problem, or bad battery cables. I'd start by double checking the battery and makeing sure it has a full charge. Then check all connectios and make sure there clean tite and brite. If its a 6 volt system does it have the correct cable on it. If there the auto type cables and it 6 volts there your problem. 6 volt systems need 0 or 00 battery cables and little auto type cables burn out easy and don't deliever enough amps to turn the engine over correctly
