I have a 47 8N that I am getting ready to replace the axle seals on...they are both leaking like crazy. I have read what the manual has to say about it and I have looked at Mr. Smith's website as well. Anything else I should know like any tips, tricks or advice before I attempt this for the first time?

Alvin, first don't call your tractor a 1947 if its really a 8N. A 1947 tractor is a 2N. You probably have a early 1948 8N, but if you go shopping for seals and say 1947 and get a counter person that wasn't born in the 40s or 50s or even 60s you probably won't get the right parts. The first thing I would do on your tractor before I removed the wheels is grab the top of the tire and shake back and forth. If there is any lost motion between the hub and axle your new seals won't last very long, as the seal actually works on the O.D. of the inside of the hub....good luck, Kelly.

What you do to fix the leaking seal depends on if you have a 2N or 8N. A 1947 could be either. Do you know for sure which one it is?
