My brother just bought a 1954 F-100 with what he was told was an original 292 v-8 engine. I think the 292 came out in 1956 in the Thunderbird. He also thinks the engine, if original is a 232cc?, but is unsure. Anyone know of anyway to determine what size engine is in this Ford. He said that the water pump is not attached to the fan, but is a driven by a separate pully. Thanks...Ron

The 292 engine came out in 1955 and was used in regular Ford cars as well as Thunderbirds.

Everything I could find on the net said this for the 1954 Ford F-100:

1954-1955 - 223 in³ "Mileage Maker" straight-6, 115 hp

The 239 "Power King" V8 kicked out 130 hp.

Those two seen to have been the only manufacturer engine options for the 1954 F100.

That first OHV V-8 was a 239. The larger trucks also had a 256 available. Both were "Y" block, and you could bolt in a 272, 292, or 312. There was also a 256 truck engine in later years. The 239 was yellow as I remember it, the 272 red. Those early OHVs were not too long lived, and most of them have been replaced with a later engine.
