My 47 or 48 model 8N was converted to 12V by the previous owner...my starter solenoid is mounted on a bracket secured by one of the head bolts. Is this the correct mounting location or should it be mounted elsewhere?

Thanks for the answers...I do understand electrical wiring. I just wanted the tractor to be as original as possible even though it has been converted to 12V. The solenoid I have now is junk. I'll be replacing it most likely with the roundcan solenoid and I'll look for the tapped holes in my starter case. Thanks!

The OEM starter motor case is drilled and tapped to mount the solenoid. Hard to see the holes if they are filled with crud. Put it on there and save your starter all the length of that cable. There is an L-shaped buss bar comes off the soleniod goes right to the starter post.

Alvin..... ...the 8N's OEM 6-volt 3-terminal roundcan starter soleoid mounts ontop of the starter motor barrel (look for holes) with the little middle terminal facing the engine block and hard to gittoo and is NEUTRAL SAFETY interlocked by yer BIG thumb switch by the tranny shifter.

Surprizingly enuff, 12-volt intermittant starter duty doesn't effect it. Meaning there is NO NEED to change to 12-volt starter solenoid. Most 12-volt starter solenoids are 4-terminal and there are several different internal switching wiring schemes that effect the way the 4-terminal 12-volt starter solenoid is externally wired. So it is hard to guess which way yer 12-volt external brackett mounted solenoid is wired.

Iff'n it workin' for you now, don't mucka'round unless you understand electrical wiring..... .....Dell

It should be mounted on top of the starter.
