Oregon..... ...you write..... ."tractor turns over fine and briefly fires for a second or two but will not stay running". Sounds like you've gottchur ignition "hot" wired to yer BIG starter "hot" terminal on yer 2-terminal roundcan starter switch under yer battery tray instead of your BATT terminal. Meaning as soon as your engine fires, you lett-upp on yer thumb starter button and turn-off yer ignition at the same time. I know 8-ways to successfully convert to 12-volts, but this is a "new-way" for me..... ...respectfully, Dell, a 12-volt advocate for the right reasons

That said, I haven't found the right reason yet for my eazy starting 6-volt 8N and I know how to do it right the FIRST time.

Rechecked wiring diagram from Tisco.I have ignition hot to battery side, not the starter.Got it to run but the amp meter shows a neg.-25amps @1/3 throttle.I have 14.5v while running @ batt.post on alternator. With key off i have 12v @ alt.post and no volts @ coil like instructions say.I have 4v @ coil with key on @ coil. The ampmeter i have + going to alt.(1 wire alt).- side of meter going to junction post and batt.term. on round 2 post can.I installed a new 12v ampmeter from auto parts store. Also tryed to re-excite alt. with jumper wire as per instructions. What am i missing?

Only 4V @ coil with points closed and 12+ volts pushing it?? Must have some resistors in there -- doubt if 4V is enough to run electronic ignition. I guess I'd get a square can 12V coil and use Dell's "secret" resistors in parallel to give you 11.5-12V @ coil and she may do a bit better.

oregon..... ....as I understand yer current complaint, you've gottchur engine to run ...but... yer NEW 2-terminal replacement ampmeter is reading -25amps at 1/3 throttle. SWAPP yer ampmeter 2-terminal wires and vola' yer ampmeter will read +25amps. Isn't that amazing? And NO, ya ain't hurtchur ampmeter by having it wired bassackwards..... ...respectfully, Dell

Thanks for the help guys.Got it up and going good. The Tisco kit instructions show using the existing resistor along with the one in the kit. This cut my ohms in half thus not letting it run properly with new electronic ignition.Amp wiring diagram was backwards also. Just by-passed the old resistor giving me around 9v @ coil.So much for the diagram.Box says made in China..go figure!Runs super now..Thanks again.
