Hello, can anyone tell me how to bypass the interlock that wont allow you to start in gear?
basicly for the past year or so I have been jigling the shifter while pressing the starter button, now I can jiggle the thing all day and it wont start, is there a easy fix or a way to bypass it? I need to use this girl once more before I get it into the shed for a propper fix.
I relly appreciate any help.
Bruce

When ya get that 'Round Tuit' you probably will need to pull off the shifter plate and clean up the starter switch underneath or replace it with a new starter switch.

Before you pull off the shifter plate, search the archives here to find out how to do it. There are a couple of little spring thangies that can fly out or possibly go to the bottom of the sump.

If it is an 8N and is still 6 volts all you have to do to bypass the start button is use a screwdriver etc to short from the wire on it to ground. Be sure to be in the seat of the tractor before you try this because if you are standing beside the tractor you can get yourself run down. You may ask how do I know????? Ask my foot!

Zane, Thats why the first thing you put your hands on when starting a tractor should be the shifter. LOL

Couple a ways - jumper from one side of the solenoid to the other with the handles on your channel locks, or drag'er backwards up the hill a ways and roll start'er -- always make sure it's in neutral and the key is on before anything else.
