One end will have a painted ring around it that end goes toward the alt. I use # 276-1144

Yep you need a diode. As Dell has said idiot light work well but guess what they have a name for some reason. In my book idiot lights are for idiots and those people should stay in cars. LOL. Sorry I'm a gauge guy and believe lights don't tell you what you need to know when you need to know.

I would have to go look at one of may set ups to tell you that. I use radio shack doide 276-1661 on all my 12 volt set ups.

If I rember right the line on the doide is to be put on the alternator side of the wire. But thats just a guess, with out looking on one of my tractors. I havew 15 running tractors plus another 5 or 6 I work on for a friend.

Al..... ...yep, diode between P1 and ignition ON switch terminal will stop yer alternators internal guttz from backfeeding power out to the ignition coil. Iff'n it don't work the firsttime, turn diode around and re-install. Biggest problem with diodes, is mounting them. Mounting them bassackwards don't hurt'em howsomevers.

Thats the beauty of the "idiot-lite" scheme that General Motors uses, don't matter which side of bulb (trailer clearance lite) is connected where.

Go ahead and use the diode to isolate yer alternator guttz and make the engine quit; its only 1-of-8ways I know how to convert to 12-volts..... ....Dell, a 12-volt advocate for the right reasons
