good day,
there must be people on this forum with portable garages.
the type that are steel framed with vinyl laminated ''Rip Stop'' polyester.
such as are obtainable from places like harbor freight.
do they hold up to the wind?
what about snow load?
what would be the life expectancy of such a structure?
reason i ask is i don't want to go with a permanent building, knowing i will be mugged with a bigger local tax bill.

I have had my tractor in a 2" pipe 10x20 one that I got at Sams club for 250$. I have it anchored with 8 screw in anchors and I have tent stakes on the bottom plate of each pole. It has a trusse system and is snow rated for 3'. It has stude up to wind 65mph and snow wet 2'. I do nock the snow off of it though when ever I get a chance.

I had one of those Harbor Freight $199.00 garages, It worked great during winter, but it didn"t keep the mice out. You need to anchor it down really good. Mine was empty during a Sept storm even though I had a cement block in each corner and staked down but the wind picked it up and threw it twenty feet over the fence. Twisted it up pretty bad. That was the end of that.

5 years ago I got the 2" pipe version
10x20 arched top from COSCO for $150
A good deal. Put it up in NEPA and the first
year worked fine. Second winter the entire
structure started to roll away with the
winds, had to chase it down. And by spring
most of the vinyl was shredded from the
winds.
Finally made it work by buying 8 sheets of
3'x20' steel roofing and pop riveted it on the
pipes 4 top ones silver, sides in barn red.
Concreted it in the ground and it hasen't
moved since. 9N now2 sits inside.

I am not sure where you are located, but around here and I think most places they see they sell these metal carports, they are around 1000 bucks but all you need i s a level surface and they put them up in about an hour andf 15 minutes, they start at about 18' x 22' I think it is the way to go, cant build a shed for that price, and most places dont get a tax increase because it is considered portable, I got one for my tractors 18X42 and love it, I will be getting another for my outdoor wood furnace and wood, have a good one pat

I looked into the one that Harbour Freight offers..Only prob is:: My car is two feet too long to get in there! Nuff sed! Might be good for the Ford Tractor, as long as it doesn't have a super-long implement on it!

Actually gas is just a small fraction of total vehicle ownership costs! I don't drive much these days, so for me it is immaterial just how much it costs, compared to the exorbitant taxes, insurance, registration, repair costs, etcetcetc of new fuel-efficient vehicles! Besides I LOVE them big old Boats of cars..the ones thatr can run coast-to-coast towing a boat on trailer at 80+ mph wih\thout breathing hard! I saw this one on the lot at the Local Chevvy Dealership, and fell in love with it..test-drove it initially rejected it, but since it was across the street from the Food Lion I saw it everytime I went for groceries! Finally caved in and went back and made the deal! These things were from back when I was in High School..it is 1967. I was junior in 1967...probably woulda killed myself if I had it back then, hehehe. Actually rather cheap to own one of these beasts, if you like to work on automobiles and don't own shop full of the newfangled gadgets to service the newfangled computerized cars! I love to work on my own stuffs, and the newfangled ones are too hard to fix! Only thing is: it is too long to go into one of them there cheap portable garage-thingies from Harbout Freight! 10-4 on the skate-board! I used to commute to town on a ten-speed bike..back when I was working there. Saved a hell of a lottsa $$ and felt better than I do now.

Good looking car and I'm sure you enjoy it. I can identify with what you said. I am 50 something and I still have my first car..a '65 Mustang....Actually I just gave it to my 24 year old son at Christmas. I'm through with it, never drive it,and I'm sure he will enjoy it..Red, white interior, good shape..it's a 6 cylinder, wish it was a 289 but hey I only paid $750 for it years ago and have been offered $10,000 several years ago. We learn as we go. I bought one brand new car in my life and will never buy another new one..I'm glad that the new, shiny stuff was never a controlling factor for me..I'm just a conservative, practical, tightwad and thank goodness I have been that way..Have a great day...
