Sediment bowl leaks

I recently bought a 9N that had not been run for a few years. We cleaned out all the old gas and lines including the sediment bowl. The sediment bowl gasket was in bad shape so we fabricated a new cork gasket. Apparently we didn"t do a very good job because it leaks when we open the fuel valve.

Are replacement gaskets available? Should we have used a different material other than cork? Any suggestions? Please go easy on me as this is a new learning experience for me and I"m sure there will be more questions.

This is a great Forum and I"ve learned a lot from reading the past posts.
Thanks

My sediment bowl leaks, too, although I haven't disassembled it yet. Based on what you say I'm thinking maybe it's a gasket problem. Since I didn't even realize there was a gasket IN there, I sure appreciate you posting this!!! THANKS! --Dawn

Any good auto parts store should have those gaskets. I have an Oreillys that when I need one I go in and buy all they have in stock, that way I have a few one hand when I need one, but I do have 20 tractors so I need them off and on.
