I've had my '52 8n for about 6 weeks now and I'm having a problem with the wife. In 19 years of marriage she's never ONCE offered to assist in mowing. Now I can't get her off the tractor. At first, I thought this was a wonderful development....finally it was my turn to sit on the porch and watch! But now she's really cutting into MY tractor time. Hence my dilemma..... .
Looking for a graceful way to curb her enthusiasm, yet not kill it. Anyone care to take a stab? :)

Thanks,
N8NO

Simple buy another! then you can both mow at the same time, thusly getting through sooner, thereby createing more time to do other things together.

Sounded good before it got to paper. Oh well! I tried.

I have a .270 rifle that would do the trick.

Your wife's enthusiasm will come in handy in the future. This past winter while I was having problems with my 2N's radiator, I talked to my wife about how fed up I was with all the repairs I had to do on the tractor. She sensed where I was going with the conversation and interupted by saying, "you wouldn't sell it, would you?" It seems that the 2N had found a place in her heart as well. Her commitment to that tractor kept it in the garage and I am happy it is there. My wife, because she likes the tractor, helped me see beyond the immeadiate problems and remember what was important. This past week, she and my son went to pick up the generator after a rebuild and sat by handing me tools while I re-installed it. All in all we had a really good time.

Consider yourself lucky that you have a wife who likes tractors. Most do not.

Todd, have her become a proctologist and clean out the hydraulic pumps and PTO cavity with her hands and tell her that "it builds character and relationship with the tractor" ---- Hmmmm. That is a hard one - I had a similar fit when I got my 4runner and decked it out with extra 4x4 gear. She wanted to drive it! Which left me with the older and less "cool" Mazda Protege - and I was sort of affected for a bit about all of that. But after time I realized that is wasn't that big of a deal. We both drive it and we both drive the Mazda (for mileage/fuel efficiency purposes) Maybe if she likes riding around you can get her a horse or train one of those llamas!!!!

I am lucky I have a wife that really understands my unique affair with my 8N and she knows that it is my toy. I have no problem with her driving it around but she likes that I am willing to do all of the major cutting work. We also have a Craftsman 21HP "tractor" (use the terms loosely) which she rides and takes care of the front lawn and around the fruit trees - etc. We also have a DR Field Trimmer that we both use (mostly her) to cut the grass under the electric fence and around the perimeter. (great product!)

I don't know Todd - as I unfortunately don't have the same problem...maybe some of the more experienced members of this forum will have a more lucid response.

Good luck, man.

Andy
