Went to see Walk the Line this weekend, the moviw about Johnny Cash. It wasa great movie, I love the man"s music, but there is this scene where he gets on an Oliver 77 and rocks the heck out of it and dumps it in a lake. I "bout near squeezed the wife"s hand off as he was rocking them gears and then when the landed it in the lake I just couldnt take it. It was real nice restored machine too. I stuck around and watched in the credits for one of those disclaimers like "no antique tractors where actually harmed in the makeing of this move." I sure hope they didnt wreck that poor tractor. They can do what they want to dogs and kittens, heck you can always make more of them, but there are only so many old tractors out there.

I saw that and had the same reaction.

My thoughts are that it was a non-working machine. The speed at which he was shifting forward to reverse and back again.. I'm not sure he could have shifted that fast... I also notice the angle they shot it from you could only see the top of the tractor.. hood and up when the jerking was going on. I wonder if they didn't have a chain rigged up to that thinkjerking it forward and letting it roll back.. or jerking it back with a second chain????

Oh gosh! You know, I haven't seen that movie and now I'm not sure I can. I even have a hard time when they trash a good old car in a movie. Ow!!

10-4 on the hard times!! Especially excruciating is when they do "Demolition Derbies", using what was old junk cars, but now are priceless collector items! Like Old Fin Cars from the 50's!!

It's not quite related, but I thought of this thread just now when I read a news story about a guy who recently got back his 1968 Corvette that was stolen in '68! Did you see that? 37 years it was missing; he said he'd given up ever seeing it again. (duh! LOL) --Dawn
