I looked over in the reseach and info are to find the year of the tractor that came in this morning and I noticed it says the 9N and the 2n where both being made in 1942 and 43. Is that right wrong or some where in between?? The numbers I have on this 9N says its a 1942 but wasn't that when to 2N came out?? Whats up with that. The number on this 9N is 9N956XX Which puts it in as a 1942. I know its a 9N because of the left brake pedel and clutch pedel are on the same side. Thanks

The 2N also had the clutch and the left brake on the left side of the tractor. That was not different between the 9N and the 2N. In the 9N up until 1941 the left and right brake pedals were identical. In 1941 they made different parts for the two brake pedals but they were still on opposite sides of the tractor.

Sometime along the line the I&T shop manual messed up the chart saying the 9N was produced in 1943 and everybody followed and printed the same info in their books, it is incorrect, charts before the late 1980's are correct. the last 9N was serial# 9N99002 in mid 1942, the first 2N was serial# 9N99003 in mid 1942, so yours would be a 1942 9N.

All 9n and 2n start the sn with 9n.. sounds like you have a 2n...9n and 2n have the same tranny and brake setup.. and only very minor differences ...

I'm thinking based on what Tim and Crazy8 say that you've got an 18N! :-)

If I did the link correctly,go to John Smiths link below,he's got a page just on this subject..my understanding is they are basically the same, but some of the 2's came on steel with a magneto during the WWII years..

Thanks Tim that got my question answered a little better. Means this is a 1942-9N with a sherman tranny overdrive type.

My understanding is 9n 39-42, 2n 42-mid- late 47 There arent many differances 9n and 2n. many refered to 2ns as 9ns and kept it at that.

Well I guess what this site has on the numbers is messed up then, thats why I was asking. The serail number on this sites serail numbers over lap in the 1942/43 area of the 9 and 2N and just plain don't seem to work out right. So this maybe a 9N or a 2N since its a 1942.
