Hey guys I ve got a quick question that I think I already know the answer to. The rear tires on my 8N has one worn out tire and one weather checked but good tread. With the one worn out tire I really don't get alot of the power to the ground especially when snow plowing. My question is should I get tire chains or new tires.

I've got both, one tractor with new tires and one with worn. The new tires are good on fresh snow but once there is a frozen or ice base, only the chains will asure plowing traction. The double ring chains from tirechains.com have worked great.

I had new tires put on last fall with no fluid and with our snow falls in no.central Wis., I have'nt needed chains yet. The best price w/shipping that I found is at tirechains.com for new ones. I guess that I would look for used chains first. I use a 7' back blade for driveways, around the mach. shed and a woods road.

This is my second winter with new tires. The chains are lying on the shop floor ready to go, but haven't needed them so far. Luckily we've had only small snows recently. New tires are worth the price the all year around, but you can't beat chains for deep snow/ice. My tires are fluid filled which helps a lot. How's that for a hedged answer. Good N'ing.

I've done a lot of snow plowing with an N tractor. One had brand new tires and the other worn tires. In deep snow the new tires grab more but on any kind of packed snow or ice the tread didn't matter, chains were the only thing that helped. The tractor will break loose easily. I too have liquid fill and that helps a lot. New tires are great year round as steve said but they don't help that much in the winter. If you really plan on plowing often get chains! I had a set bult from used chain for $50. (I already had the chain.
