9n points question

I know that changing the points on a 9n should only take about 5 minutes. But, I have a problem that I am almost too embarassed to mention. I have check through past subjects and apparently no one else has had this problem so I must be having a brain cramp.

What is the secret to installing the screw that goes through the breaker arm spring, the breaker arm copper contact/spring, the tab from the condenser connection and into the stationary contact connection nut? Lining all the holes up is one thing but trying to hold the screw onto the end of a srewdriver and feeding it through the small hole to screw it is another.

I hesitated sending this as I'm sure there is some obviously simple method.

Thanks

Get yourself a set of the two-piece locking blade screwdrivers made for electricians - works great even on non-ferromagnetic screws. Even cheap Chinese imports will start a screw.

Any suggestions on holding the pieces together once the holes are lined up?

I somehow don't think I should be having such a problem with this.

Thanks

Ron..... ...somehow I get the impression that you are trying to change yer front mount distributor points while still on the tractor.

You do know itza 2-bolt 15-minute job to REMOVE yer frontmount distributor and changed the points on yer kitchen table, don't you? Since the distributor is OFF-SETT tang driven, timing is NOT ISSUE. Just gently finger install yer 2-bolts, twist yer rotor around until it drops into the off-sett drive slot and then tighten the 2-bolts. Re-snap yer 4-nipple cap. Re-bail yer squarecan ignition coil. (gently stretch yer squarecan coil danglin' springy-thingy first) Simple, eh?..... ....respectfully, Dell
