North Texas is in an extreme drought - my pond is reduced to a few puddles with some 2ft- 3ft catfish floundering in mud puddles, and the water district is going to turn our irrigation back on for 2 weeks. Unheard of here, it's usually off from Nov. to Apr. --- I had intended to burn out my reeds, but for obvious hazard reasons cannot. I can restore the pond - about 1 acre in diameter - but wanted to lose some of the reeds. (cattails). Will my boxblade with the scarifiers all the way down yank those devils out?? Kinda short on time to decide what action to take. Thanks in advance - RuintTX.

Rather than use Roundup I woud use Monsanto's Rodeo. It is specific for aquatic applications. I do not work for Monsanto, so any of the newer cheaper generics are good

If you just want to kill off the cattails now when the water is low might be a good time to spray with glyphosate (roundup). The cattails need to be actively growing for it to work though. This will leave the dead roots and stems, but if the water stays down you may be able to shred the stems. Like someone said, check with your local extension office. Steve

Our pools are small but pretty deep. We've still got 3 or 4' of water, but not too great for the livestock. So, we've been watering the cattle w/ county water since November.

I know what you mean about the drought. It's bad and the warm weather is weird, too. I watered my St Augustine grass and it's statring to green up.
I've never seen anything like it.
About your cattails, I would check with the County Extension Service about getting rid of them. Some times tearing up the root system can make it spread.
Good luck, LeRoy
