Was wondering what other"s havebeen seeing in terms of availability and prices in N"s in their areas.

For me it seems like prices have gone down a bit, like a couple of hundred dollars, and there are more N"s for sale.

My thoughts are that this is due to Older N owners passing on and younger folks wanting small tractors with more features...they just don"t see the value in the N"s.

Time of year and area have a lot to do with prices. Our area seem to be up since I bought mine two years ago. Even though my N doesn't have a live PTO and hyd. It makes you think while you are doing chores, thing don't go as fast as with a modern tractor, but you get more seat time and that is what counts, I am always thinking how a farmer felt during the 40,50's while using his new 9N/8N working the fields.

How much,if any, of a premium should you pay on an average 8N with usual dings, dents, not all original, tires 50%, but with an engine rebuild ($1600) kits/parts ($800) rebuilt hydraulics, new this and that etc.--with all receipts for work/parts included? Asking $4200

Since you asked, I'll respond (FWIW)...

In my view, you can get a much better, more modern, more practical, more powerful, live hydraulics, (maybe even live PTO and power steering) for that kind of money.

I've seen 8N's completely restored with new tires and paint for that much $.

Best regards,

Rick

In our state farmers market bulletin there are always several N"s for sale at prices averaging around $1800-2500; sometimes a little cheaper and sometimes a little higher.

Don"t know about the reasons for selling.

I recently offered a guy $1000 for a late model 8N that needed restoring and needed tires all the way around. He said he had turned down $2000 for it. It may be worth that but not for my purposes. I figure $2500 would buy a pretty nice 8N and possibly with an attachment or two.

I don"t recommend an N tractor unless they are willing to do a little tinkering to keep it running good.

Rick

There are many variables. It seems like the more compact the tractor the higher the price tag. A little compact brings close to the same $ as a real tractor with way more hp. If the buyer is new to the tractor world he cant relate to these n's. Most tractors i see around the dealers are more for contractors. They have front loaders, and a backhoe or rake on the back. It seems they all have to have 4wheel drive. Not to take anything away from the N's ,no live pto/hydraulics doesnt help there selling power. I own 2 8ns, and appreciate them for what they are, for back in there day thats really all there was in there class. It seems more of the hundred, naa, series are being retired off the farms and are available to buy. Just a little more money to buy a naa or hundreds series and a bit more user friendly.
