Thanks to the forum you helped walk me through this restoration (My first). The 8N won first place in our town parade (Driven by my 10 yr old grandson).

The 8N (#24342) worked 50 years in the grape vineyard of Central Valley California. I bought it at the end of the harvest and drove it on the trailer to bring home. The BEFORE picture was taken about 10 minutes after unloading at my shop.
Restoration took 5 months and I finished painting the "Ford" script on hood and fenders the night before the parade. Love this tractor. It is exactly like the one I used to clean out barnyards when I was an 8 yr old kid on the farm. That too was 1948. I still had my original 8N key from way back then in my dresser drawer. I used the key to bring the tractor home. Now let's hope this first try at photobucket works. If not I will try and resend.

Sweet!! Where in the Central Valley are you? We live just outside Fresno in the middle of the vines.

Jim,
We are in Modesto about 100 miles north of you. The ranch is actually in Hughson, CA (Just 4 mi north of Turlock. If you are up this way...I would be glad to show off the 8N

Boy, that's some beautiful looking 8N you've got now. The transformation is amazing. I love all the details like the sticker on the battery box etc. Also I see you went with the original color for the radiator cap (black). I'm less than half way with my paint job - I've got the gray done and a few bits of red, but I've got a whole loader frame to go yet besides all the cast parts.
If I don't ask these questions, I'm sure someone else will. (1)What brands of paint did you use for the primer, gray & red, and was it rattle canned, brushed, or power sprayed?
(2)What method did you use to clean up your sheet metal & cast parts?
Carl

For Paint: I used New Holland Red & yellow Primer and New Holland Red for finish. Also New Holland gray primer and New Holland Gray for Finish. If you email me I will send you the Product numbers.

Also, I used my power-sprayer and air compressor. I sprayed the cast iron in the garage with plastic sheets hung to form a booth...and I sprayed all the parts in the driveway and hanging from the open garage door.

Paint flowed on beautiful with no runs. I am not sure if I should have used the yellow primer as it may not have been nesessary on the cast metal. Anyway...the finished product won a first prize in town.

Very nice job, you can tell you put a lot into it. Very nice sheet metal paint job, I sure wish I could pull off a nice job like that. And, I like the contrasting bolts and nuts, it really sets it off nicely.
