Now that I've succesfully (thanks Dell) converted to 12 volts, I need to connected headlights and rear light. (yes I have new sealed unit bulbs)

As I don't want to screw up (at this point) and my wiring diagram (shown) is slightly different from the 12 volt conversion diagram at "myoldfords", please advise where the light switch should be connected.

Any other tips would be apprecaited.

Thanks
Ron

PS. Sorry if you need to twist yer head, but I didn't know how to twist the picture.

Thanks Bob

The diagram (#5) from "myoldford" differs from this diagram in that the ignition switch, resistors, coil, etc are on the positive side of the ammeter. Was wondering how the difference would affect the ammeter reading when lights are switched on, etc.

Just curious, thanks
Ron

Ammeter connections can be a bit ambigous.

Connect the battery to one side. Connect ALL the electrical loads AND the wire from the alternator to the other side.

If the ammeter reads backwards, swap ALL the wires to the opposite posts on the ammeter.

Thats the reason I'm asking. In the diagram received with the 12 volt kit (see picture), all the loads (except alternator) are connected to the battery side.

Sorry to be so persistent, but when a self admitted automotive dummy get differing instruction diagrams, confusion (or curiousity) sets in.

Thanks
Ron

Yeah, I see that now. However, the conventional way is as I posted previously... Battery to one side, and all loads PLUS the charging system to the other side.

That way, the ammeter shows the net gain or loss to the battery,

Connect a fused switch (or connect a regular switch, using an in-line fuse) to either of the points marked with a red arrow.

Some folks like to connect the power to the headlight switch through the ignition switch, so the headlights go "off" when the key is shut "off", but that puts the lighting load through the ignition switch, which cannot always handle the load, causing poor running or hard starting problems.

However, sourcing the power from either point marked will eliminate the possibility of that problem.
