I'm new to the world of Ford N Tractors and dont konw how or what to tell the 9n from the 2n,
or how to tell the year. All the plates are gone.
But I can find the SSN# 9n199185 with a star at the end

Check out this site for a positive ID. Can't always go by the serial number as engines were commonly swapped.

You have a 2N, from SN 99003-296131 these are 2n tractors. Earlier than 99003 are 9N's and after 296131 they are 8N's. The toolbox mount different 2N bolt directly to the battery box but the 9N's have a bracket which also bolts on the battery box. hopes this helps.

8N serial numbers started over with 8N as the prefix. All 9N serial number prefixes are either 9N's or 2N's.

That engine serial number, stamped on the LH side of the block, just below the cylinder head IS the tractor's serial number, unless the egine got swapped somewhere along the line.

That number would make it a 1940 "2N".

I made at least 3 "typo's" in that post, "3", instead of "#", "egine" for "engine", and "1940", instead of "1946".

9N 199,185 would be a 1946 "2N"

Sorry for all the typo's!

I've been on here WAY too much this weekend, stuck in the house with a sick kid, and I think I'll go try to get some sleep!

I know the feeling my daughter missed school Thur. and Fri. "Stuck at home with a sick kid," it is not quite as much fun as missing work to play with your kids.

No problem Bob, N series owners are always willing to help. I've always been helped, not just by answers but by reading a lot of the posts. It sure is fun learning. I'm pretty new here also, only been a 1946 2N owner since summer of 2005. And I can tell you I got the N disease. Have fun...
