Received new head and gasket today and gave it a shot of GRAY paint before installation.
I have been looking in the archives for an hour and still need to ask. Should I use washers on the bolts and/or studs. There were some on previously.(could have been part of problem?)

Thanks

I like grade 8 flat washers for grade 8 bolts, but the manual does not have any washers so it's your tractor, your call. Id also put a little of my favorite sealant on the bottom threads of any head studs that came out or even better replace the studs with new ones with a dab of permatex on the threads.

No to lock washers. Why grey paint? I've heard of using aluminium paint, but not grey paint.....

Top side with gray paint, nothing on bottom.

I suspect he is talking about painting the top of the head, and not the gasket side, with gray paint.

Too much torque for lockwashers - they'll open up. Plain grade 8 bolts or a flat washer if you want.
