You have to pull the cover off. You also remove the saftey switch. Now going by memory but when you push down on the shifter and on the bottom side if you look up you will see a pin that goes thru the ball area and you need to remove it. There is a chance this pin is on the top side to. Then it should come apart on yo. When you have the cover off and cleaned up you can see it. Here is a picture. You will be able to figure it out when you see it but the pin slips out pretty easy once you see it. Mark H.

I do understand hoe to disassemeble it. I have taken it apart to remove the old broken spring. I have to install the new one and it given me trouble because it needs to be compressed in order get it onto the shaft. Also inserting the keeper clip under the spring is given me trouble. ANY HINTS ON HOW TO INSTALL THE SPRING AND CLIP WITHOUT BUSTING FINGERS? tHANKS

Thanks. I havent spent alot of trying to install it yet. I went to a reputable Tractor parts place and they told me you cant do it without grinding the rivets off the bracket that holds the whole assembly. They want to sell me the whole shifter assembly. Big $$$$. Have you actually rfeplaced this spring before?
Thanks

I looked in all my manuals and there was no help there either. Looks like you have to just pull the top cover and start taking it apart.
