hello,
I mainly tinker of Farmall's but have a chance to pick up an 8n with a loader for cheap. cheap because the rancher tells me the clutch does not work at all. so, any of you fellas have an estimate of labor and cash to split the tractor and install a new clutch?
many thanks

Arod, be SURE you change the transmission input shaft seal.... and have a good look at the rear crank seal to see if it might be weeping a bit. Either one leads to a sticky clutch. Good Luck, duey

the loader will add 2 to 3 hours to the job, ford factory time izz 2.3 hr includes piliot BRG replace, but it does not figger in 50 years of ware & tear

The other 2 guys have given you some good info. If you would end up splitting the tractor and doing the work your self, heres about how long it would take if you know what your doing. I have taken one apart in just under 3 hours, but I also have the right equipment to do it.

Two things to check BEFORE breaking it apart.
First, is it possible that the tractor has sat stored a long time (months or more)? Rusted clutch to flywheel can be freed without breaking the tractor.
Second, (later 8N's)the clutch pedal is linked to the clutch shaft with an eye bolt adjuster to a lever pinned on the throwout shaft. I experienced a broken lever on the underside of that lever. The clutch pedal would depress and return but the lever would spead open on the bottom rather than rotate the shaft.
Either situation will not disingage the clutch.

A new clutch and pressure plate will run you right at $100 new. Add in a few more bucks for the pilot the throwout bearings. I would do it myself and save labor, but a good experienced mechanic can split a tractor and put it back together in a few hours.

Good luck,
Dan
