OT, Get medical exams as required!!.

Wife got a rather unpleasant surprise not too long ago. She went in to see Doc for what she thought was hemorrhoids, and the doc sent her to get a lower GI colonscopy. Where they take pictures all up inside? Got the results back and the Doc told her she had two cancerous growths. One near the end of the large intestine is rather large and is causing her some pain. They can't operate on it yet, so are going to do first some radiation treatments, and quite possible Kemo. Once that one is in remission or shrinks to the point of not being a problem. Doctor will operate and take out the other one higher up the large intestine. It is not near as large or as troublesome but is also malignant but of a different type. Worst case is that the lower one does not react to treatment then she would need to have that lower bowel removed and have a colostomy bag,. But no one is thinking that yet. Wife is 63 and eats a good diet, never smoked, eats plenty of gains and fruits, however.

So, she starts radiation treatment Monday

So, see your Doc regularly and get the recommended exams as required,, Do not put it off..

OT.Never give up praying. Believe me the Lord is listening. Sometimes he doesn't reply in a manner we would like, but when he does the results are the same. My son had a Stem Cell transplant last October in an attempt to cure an incurable cancer known as Mantle Cell Lyphoma. It is working and he is healing. No cancer cells showed up in his last test a month ago. He should not be with us today, according to the original diagnosis, but he is. Pray hard and get as many people to pray for her as you can. They definitly work. Ron

Prayer and support from family, friends and this forum are all important in conquering these horrible diseases. My wife has been diagnosed with breast cancer. It will knock you to your knees and reminds us that life is precious and far too short for many of us. When I am not working on "Bud", my Funk, I work in the health care industry and have since 1970. I am a service engineer and work to make sure MRI machines are ready to provide as much information as possible for the physicians. I have also witnessed some upsetting mistakes made by the healthcare industry. It is important to get a second opinion and to be comfortable with all of the physicians involved. May God Bless You

Keep telling your wife that cancer can be beat. My baby siser had Hogkins at 22. She had two children after that and is 52 now. My mother had uteran cancer in 1968. She died at 85, 3 years ago. My wife had ovarian cancer and had her last kemo 11 years ago. There was a tumor on each ovary that were the size of my fist and a mass growing in between. She had check ups every year before and since. She never lost a strand of hair during her treatments.
We will pray for your wife.

We are going through something similar in our family. My brother's wife (46, non-smoker) has never been one to see the Dr on a regular basis. She just had an excessive distrust of the medical profession. Well she got to feeling poorly and it just never got any better so she finally went to the doctor.

Ovarian cancer. They took a tumor the size of a cantaloup out of her (I find it hard to believe, but that's what they're telling me). That was about Christmas-time. Now she's facing more surgery to remove lymph nodes and a year of Chemo.

Dawn, her name is Cristi. My brother's name is Jed and he needs prayers, too.

Check ups are important. 2003 I was going to have 5 bypasses, while checking me out for surgery they found I had lung cancer. Took Chemo for over a year, got so sick I couldn't take it any more.
Dr put me on a one a day pill ($100.00 Each} Last cat scan all small spots gone and the bigger ones getting smaller.
I feel good now back to work, and doing every thing I was doing before.
I check this board out every day, Don't say much though.
I have 12 Fords plus a variety of other brands.

Ole Country Boy, we will put your wife on our prayer list.

I don't mention this much on the N board but my wife is severely disabled due to a brain tumor. She started having bad headaches in late 1996. An MRI showed a mass in the lower mid section of her brain. After a failed attempt to imbolize (kill off the blood vessels feeding the tumor) the tumor the neurosurgeon recommended brain surgery. Since the tumor was pressing on her brain stem, the situation was urgent. So, she had the brain surgery and it didn't go well. She had some serious paralysis as a result of the surgery (which was one of the risks involved). The surgeon was able to remove only a small portion of the tumor due to its location and texture. A year or so later she had a series of radiation treatments which has stunted the tumor and possibly saved her life.

She has come a long way in her recovery but is still severely disabled and cannot walk without assistance.

I don't like to use this term, but she is basically an invalid.

My taking care of her at home (and trying to work a full time job) is the only thing keeping her out of a nursing home.

Little things like this great N board, my old tractors, my goats and my musical instruments help me keep my sanity.

Best regards to you and your wife.

Rick

I second the post but from a different vantage point. When I was 49 years and 11 months I went for my annual physical (at the urging of my wife.)

Long story short I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Another long story short, it is almost 8 years later and I am writing this - something I would not be doing if I had not gone in for a physical 8 years ago.

Long story short - all you men out there, go in as well, this disease knows no age or ethnic or lifestyle boundaries, but it WILL kill you.

Finally, I was diagnosed diabetic a few years after that. Again, that can and will kill you.

I think my message is about as clear as I can make it.

Thanks for listening.

JU

Amen on those exams . . . we lost my next door neighbor, my wife's uncle, to prostate cancer in January of last year at 70. On the day he passed away, my Father in Law was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. He passed away this past September at 61. We spent much of last spring and summer, when he was able, restoring a Jubilee that was owned by the uncle that passed away. Cancer is a terrible disease, it can't be said enough to get checked.

What is your wife's name? You can send it to me using my email if you prefer, but (if it's ok with you) I think it is better to pray for someone using her name.

Life has a way smacking you between the eyes like that sometimes. My prayers are with you and your wife, keep a positive outlook.
My Father had bypass surgery in his early fifties and died of cancer at 69. I am 38 and have been taking medication to contol cholesterol for three years now. It's never too early to look at these things, particularly when there is a family history involved.

Good luck to you and your wife. Our prayers are with you. Been "there and done that", My wife first got cancer when she was 30 and pregnant. Went through radiation and Kemo for 4 months, then she got it again at 34. Again, Kemo. She will need all the support she can get..believe me.
