I have a 8n and would like to convert the 1 1/8 dia pto shaft to the more popular 1 3/8 dia shaft. How is the best way and where can I get the parts? Thanks

I changed mine in about 15 min, part was about $120, best thing I ever did. With an adapter PTO is too long. The sleeve type is not durable. As they said park tractor on a sharp incline don't need to drain oil out.

The down side to changing out that 1-1/8 shaft is that most of the replacement shafts are not as strong. That old 1-1/8 shaft is made out of a lot better metal. I simply bought a 1-1/8 to 1-3/8 adapter sleeve for my PTO pump and a 1-1/8 to 1-3/8 ratchet ORC for my bush hog. Both work just fine.

The cheapest way is to do it with an ORC. Which you need if you want to brush hog with it any how

I changed mine out last year - bought the complete replacement assembly. Parked the N nose down in a ditch and changed it out in less than 15 minutes - a 4 bolt job. Best thing I ever did was to get rid of the 1 1/14 to 1 3/8 adapter. GA Jim

you can do it by either changing the whole shaft, to the more modern size or, if you do some brushoging, simply order a orc unit that does the conversion for you, i use one on my jubilee and it works great, both are avalible here

I got mine last fall from this site.
Wasn"t hard to change at all.

Park the nose of the tractor in a deep ditch.
Clean around the PTO shaft real good.
Remove the 4 bolts and pull the shaft out.
Put the new shaft in and tighten the bolts.
Easy Peasy and all that....
