Changed the sparkplug wires - distributer - coil - alternator - sparkplugs - when I put a load on the tractor I loose RPMs and it spits - looses power. Any thoughts on the symptoms?

Sparkplugs are in the correct sequence.

Check for good spark with old plug with wide gap. If spark good, put in a carb kit.

If it starts right up and runs well under no load- my experience says carb kit. Made a huge difference a few times for me.

A little more information would help us. Did you have the same problems before you did the tune up? Front mount or side mount distributor?

I have a 48 8N with front mount distributor. I have tried Champion H-12 plugs, but my tractor won't run with them. It misses and sputters. I use Autolite 437 plugs with great results. Also, these tractors will run with 2 plug wires swapped, but won't have power. I know you said the plugs are in the correct sequence, but check again. 1243 front to back.

Good luck,
Danny

The end of last season, my 8N had been running well and then suddenly lost power, just as you have described.

It was a blown head gasket.

I hope that you're luckier.

On almost every N I have werked on the governor will only let the engine turn 17 to 18 hundred RPM. I git the engine Warm then over ride the gov. and git the engine to 2200 RPM and then adjust the main jet. Sounds like you need to back the main jet out a ¼ turn. I do not try and get the gov to let the engine turn more RPM they have all the power the rear end will handle at 17 to 1800 RPM

Sounds like restricted fuel flow to the carburetor, or simply the main jet set a little too lean.

Also, check for wear, and proper operation of the centrifugal spark advance.
