52-8N front wheels loosening??

I am having trouble with both front wheels becoming loose after a short time using the tractor. I tightened them up till snug then backing off till the castilated nut fits with a cotter pin. The treads on the nut and spindle are original and look OK. They are tight when I am done, but then will loosen up. This did not happen untill after I rebuilt the 8n several years ago.

Any ideas on what is happening would be appreciated?

After moving to the ranch I have been busy but still look at this site occasionally. There always has been alot of good help here.

Thanks,

Alex

Alex, if you replaced the bearings and races (cones) The races probley were not bottomed out in the hub. When you tighten the bearings and run the tractor the race keeps trying to seating it self deeper in the hub. You can pull the hub and try to seat it all the way to stop it from getting lose. Just my take on the subject. Good luck.
