I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank whatever tree frog in whatever rain forest shot our his/her tongue at about 11:30 p.m. last night, capturing a fly and thereby throwing enough of a wobble into earth's magnetic/gravitational field so as to allow me to finally re-allign my split 2N following about two hours of trying.

Also, I'll now be keeping my tractor, and not blowing it up as I'd previously promised about 11:15 p.m.

Cheers,
Paul

i know how you feel, i was trying for hours to get a 2000 to slide back togeather after putting a new clutch in it. it just wouldnt go no matter what i did, i had the tractor jacked up as far as my floor jack would travel, in a temper fit i just dumped the valve on the jack, the tractor hit the shop floor , bounced once and popped togeather, just had to put the bolts in, i dont recomend this as a common fix, but it worked once

I know how it is. Long ago I did a clutch job on my old Dodge truck , I cut the heads off some long bolts -screwed them into the block -used them to align the tranny- slid together fine. I used this on my 9N worked for me ,held everything straight.
just my 2cents worth. joe

Boy do I know how you feel! It is the luck of the draw I think. The first and only time I have split a tractor (my NAA Rustbucket), the tranny and engine slid back together easily and as expected. If course, I couldn't leave well enough alone, and because I did not mount my foot board brackets (allowing the clutch pedal to travel further up than normal) and "thought" my clutch would not adjust, I split it again to adjust the clutch pressure plate fingers. Again, the engine slid back together fairly smoothly. I finally listened to Hobo and installed my foot board mount and guess what? Yep, the clutch was WAAAY out of adjustment - so it was splittin' time for the third time. Got everything back to right and went to re-attach the engine/tranny and it would not go! I wiggled, adjusted, rocked, grunted, turned the PTO shaft by hand, then it quickly degenerated to cussing, kicking, throwing things, etc - IT WOULD NOT GO. After 2 full hours I still could not get them to mate. My wife told me to just walk away and try later as I was really starting to get upset. OH NO! I had to spend another hour sweating in my Texas garage in Summer time to no avail. I finally gave up in total disgust and knocked off for the night. The next day, I went back out to try again after work and within 2 minutes it slid in (grrrr!). I don't know what made me more mad - the fact I spent 3 hours the night before or the fact it only took 2 minutes the next day.

Needless to say my wife had one of those "I told you so" smiles when she found out (I hate when that happens). Sure feels good when it finally slides in though, doesn't it?

It might be this fellow you have to thank. when I bought my 52 8n, after some serious haggeling, the owner finally threw this guy in to seal the deal.

Way to funny guys. Been feeling a little down lately, things not going as planned. First time in days I got a good chuckle.
I can say been there done that on getting things to line up. My experiance was on truck trannys. Sometimes fight them for hours, and no go. Walk away and take a break, and come back and they fall right in.
I am a little stubburn and cant always walk away.

Unfortunately, I think it was one of those early experemental parts... fly control module.. or something.. probably didn't work ut good and never made it into the parts book... I imagine if you could find a number it would be NLS ( no longer serviced ). However.. I'm sure an aftermarket frog would bolt right up and work fine ;-)

Oh man....its been one of those mornings....I haven't laughed this hard since I was about 16 years old trying to get a VW motor to align (after 2 days on my back in the garage) after a rebuild. My cousin came through the garage, asked what I was doing, grabbed the engine, wiggled it and THUNK it went right in all in about 2 seconds. My knuckles were bleeding, I had rust in my eyes, I smelled really foul.

2 fricken seconds!
