A guy I work with told me about a tractor near his house for sale. I drove by after work yesterday and looked it over. Nobody was home but it was sitting in his front yard near the road so I looked it over. Don't know the year but it was a either a 2N or 9N three speed with a sherman. Sheet metal was good, tires fair, and it was converted to 12V. I got the phone number and started calling when I got home. Around 6:30pm someone finally answered the phone and the woman said it was being loaded on a trailer as we speak. I missed it by about 30min. I told her I liked to buy them and work on them and asked if she didn't mind telling me how much he got for it I would appreciate it. She said he sold it for $900. Well worth the money in my opinion. I'll keep looking. I need another one to go along with my 442N, Maybelle. Better luck next time I guess.

You're right but then I'm always on the hunt for these old tractors. I like to find them in need of repair and at a good price and work on them. I picked up my last one for $500.

I do the same thing but also save them from the scrappers. At this time I just plain have to many tractors and not enough of me to play with them

Save them from the scrappers?!?!? Didn't you just say that you're parting a 9N out and weren't you just contemplating cutting up another 9N and an 8N a couple weeks ago?

Parting one out is not the same as selling one for scrap. I at least save the parts to live another day when I part one out. Its a matter of how far gone one is as to what I do with it. I have some with badly cracked blocks etc and are only worth parting out and others that I get that I fix up. When I say I save them from scrapper I'm talking about the one that get sold off for iron and end up going to china

Boy, do I feel bad. I got my '45-2N from my next door neighbor for free, AND he even paid for the crane truck to deliver it...go figure ! As for scrap iron going to China, hey, a sale is a sale, who cares where it goes. The thing I can't figure out is; not all the "offshore " stuff is apcray, in fact a lot of it is good quality. Yep, I understand that wages are low in some countries (understatement of the year), those folks still put out some good products--they have modified the statement " You get what you pay for" HPH

I have to disagree with you when you say "a sale is a sale, who cares where it goes". If these old tractors are cut up and sold for scrap then a part of our history is lost forever. They're not making anymore of the original tractors. I know you can get a lot of reproduction parts, but they're not the same as the original. I would say to anyone "DO NOT SELL THEM FOR SCRAP". Parting one out is bad enough and I know sometimes it can't be helped, but selling an old tractor for scrap metal is a down right SIN in my opinion.

Yep but I some one that hates to see part just cut up for scrap when they could be used by others to fix there tractors. Some of the parts can't even be had any other way then ones from other old tractors
