I have an old allmand bros welder. The cover has been repainted. I cant tell if it is an ac-dc machine. It has the slip on leads with four post on the front. Any one have experience with these?

Without being able to see the machine it's hard to tell weather it's AC or DC or AC/DC. What you can do is take a 7018 3/32" electrode "welding rod" run a flat weld between a seting of 80-90; using a negative ground and a positive lead. If the weld after the slag is cleaned off is smooth with out a lot of weld splatter the machine is probaly DC. If there is a lot of weld splatter the machine is probaly AC. Check the back panel and see if there is a label plate that shows what the amps, volts and electrical is for this machine. It should tell you your duty cycles "AC/DC".

Most old wleders are AC only but there where/are a few that are both. A lot of them if AC/DC have more the one switch for switching from AC to DC. Post a picture of it and some one might be able to help you more with it

Its probably in the right section, thats why he put "OT" off topic,, there are a lot of questions asked here that are not directly related to tractors, because there is alot of people here that know more than just N series tractors, pat
