A while back I told how a new axle pin bushing and shims had solved the broken #2 connection on the front distributor. I was wrong! Checked it last night, and it's broken off, and it has not been over any rough ground. Think I will silicone it, and forget about it.

I agree with Claus on this one. There is more than one problem here with the front end looseness. It should not be breaking distributor caps if everything is tight, case closed. In addition to what Claus said, mine had loose rear sockets for the radius rods which allowed the axle to shift backwards and rotate up on the distributor side and break the #2 post. I have seen a number of N's at auction in my area now, and believe me, the front ends are pitifull in terms of looseness. I say start fixing the problems piece meal and eventually that front end will act like it's supposed to and not damage the distributor. My $.02

Rick, the least expensive way I have found to fix this problem is to weld a 1/4" piece of steel to the bottom of the axle on the other side this will stop the axle from travling far enough too hit the cap. Has worked on mine for better than 6 months and I have been over rough ground and been out plowing with out breaking the cap. I had the steel laying around and have an arc welder so it cost me 0 $ to fix mine. good luck

Most on this board will tell you that a new King Pin and Bushing will cure the problem. I will not argue that point. But I claim that the real culprit is (are) the Radius Rods. A bent one on the right hand side or excessive slop will cause the axel to move backwards (Less than a 90 deg. angle) and cause the problem...
Happy Motoring

Hello Rick,
Mine has been broken for years. No operating problems except when moisture gets on the distributor area, then it will miss on the #2 until the moisture drys. I replaced the king pin and bushing but have not replaced the distributor cap yet because it runs fine. FYI, Rick(Ga)
