The 1-wire generator for my 1940 9N won't charge the battery. The Generator Shop says the generator is putting out just fine. When I got it back from the generator shop it would charge a little bit if I reved up the engine but now it isn't charging at all. Any ideas as to the problem?

if your wiring is ok and your gen is ok and you polorized it , you may need a new cutout relay can

Did you polarize it when you reinstalled it? If not, take a short piece of wire and short between the two terminals on the cutout relay with the engine off for about 5 seconds. Fire it up and see what you get.

To rule out wiring problems, check the voltage at the generator, and at both sides of the cutout.

Use an analog meter, or a quality digital meter, as "cheapy" digital meters can be confused by the electrical noise from the igntion and charging systems on these old beasts, and give really goofy readings.

A 6-Volt system will charge at close to 7.4 Volts.
