inspection plate

I know this should be easy, because all posts I read say to just remove the left inspection plate. (I"m replacing the relief valve and have drained the fluid).

Problem is I can"t easily remove the inspection plate. It is going to require either removing the clutch pedal or removing the PTO lever and fork (which would make more sense). Problem is the PTO lever appeared to be held in place with a rivet.

I thought the inspection plate would come off easily, so maybe I"m not thinkin too clearly today. Words of wisdom (encouragement) would be appreciated.

Thanks
Ron

Any difficulty in alignment in
putting the plate back?

Not sure what you are saying here or for that matter what tractor you are working on. On N's and NAA tractors removing the bolts and tapping or prying the cover off should easily remove it. Clutch pedal stays as is and no need to remove the PTO handle, it and the shifter comes off with the cover, this normally is an easy task.

The tractor is a 9N.

The clutch pedal stops the inspection plate from coming straight off. The fork attached through the inspection plate to the lever stops the inspection plate from being maneuvered around the clutch pedal (whether in the up or down position).

I know the d*m thing should come off easily, that's my frustration. Maybe a good night's sleep and it'll work tomorrow.

It should come off and clear the clutch pedal but if the clutch is in the way just remove the pin from the clutch rod fork up front and let it drop down. The PTO lever is just connected to a U shaped fork that slides over a slot in the PTO sleeve so it should come right out.

If you still have trouble with it tomorrow write back and we will try again.

thanks Paul, but it sound like your referrng to the clutch for a 8n. The 9n has no clutch fork or pin (per Fo-4).

I"ll have another look tomorrow and post a picture of the parts and where I"m having the problem. I"m almost sure the lever must have to be removed. Sorry about not explaining things to clearly.

No, I am talking about a 9N. The long rod that connects to the back of the clutch pedal and runs forward to the clutch arm. There is a pin that holds that rod on each end. It is just easier to get the front one out by the clutch. The rod I am talking about is 9N7334 if you have a parts manual.
