I have a 12 Volt positive ground 8n and I am thinking of installing a winch on it.If I bolt it down how will I hook it to the battery Pos to Pos and Gr to Gr. or will that blow a hole in the universe...R.M. In AL.

I thought that a 12 volt conversion
is always Negative Ground. I would check
into that first.

Not always Guest. This one is Pos.Ground.That means the + on the battery is grounded to the tractor body. Been that way ever since I had it 17 years. Works excellent..Hope this helps you...R.M. In AL.

Are you using an alternator or a generator for your 12 volts production?

A LOT of variables there, depending upon how the winch is set up.

Does it have a permanent magnet motor?

Is any part of the motor or reversing switch system grounded to the frame of the winch, or are there 2 discreet (red and black) cables coming out of the winch that have no connection to the winch's metal framework?

Bob I'm thinking it would be just like the lights or horn.If I bolt it down it will be positive already and all I will need is a wire going back to the negative side of the batt. to make it run..What do you think.. and yes it does have a magnetic motor would that change things? Thanks R.M. In AL.

A permanent magnet field DC motor will reverse with a swap of the power supply polarity, so, if the switch is marked "fwd" and "rev", it may do the opposite of what is indicated.
