It will also be good to know if you got a front hydraulic pump.

Replacing a fan belt is an easy job for the 14 yr old, but we need to know what model tractor you have because the advice you going to get will differ based on the model. Is it an 8N or 9N? Is the distributor in the front or on the side? If none of this makes sense, don't worry, there are enoough folks around here more than willing to help you out.

He said it was a 9N. (Look at the subject line.)
Loosen the generator or alternator bolt, move the gen/alt towards the engine to create slack in the V-belt. Work the belt off the pulleys, and over/off the fan. Put the new belt over/around the fan blades until it can fit onto the waterpump pulley. Slip the belt onto the crankshaft pulley and the gen/alt pulley. Then pull the gen/alt away from the engine as hard as you can with your hands only, while someone tightens the bolt that holds the gen/alt tight again. Careful! NEVER try to turn the engine over to install a belt. ALWAYS keep your hands away from that engine starter while someone is working on it with their hands. Make CERTAIN that tractor shifter is in NEUTRAL. Keep all tools away from the wires that go to that gen/alt. (Don't make any sparks!) You can do this.

Hi there. Do you already have the fan belt in hand? Have you got the old one off?
