I have a Jubilee with the piston type pump. The pump needs an overhaul. How much trouble is it to work on this type of pump? Thanks, Rikiz

I am in the process of doing EXACTLY what you are doing. I got the rebuild kit $40. Removed the pump and started tear down. When I removed the shaft, there was quite a bit of pitting on the shaft under the main seal (guess why it wouldn't hold pressure). Bought a new shaft $50.

Took the middle section to the dealer to replace the valve seats with the ones in the kit $30.

I still have to remove the bearing race to get to the seal. I am planning on using a dremel tool to cut up the seal and bend it out with pliers. Then I have a grade 8 3/8" bolt and nut that I am going use as a jack screw and put under the race so that I can bang it out from the other side. Then I will decide if I need to replace the needle bearing $7.

I considered buying a pilot bearing puller to remove this race. I may yet change plans.

If you do an archive search on this site there is a better description of the jack screw/bearing removal process. The video does mention it, but there is not any footage of the process and I don't think there is enough detail.

Take plenty of open workbench space to spread parts out because there are a bunch of parts.

I hope to complete this job this weekend, but you just don't know. I have the better part of a working day into it (not counting waiting for parts and stuff), $120, and estimate the better part of a day (and maybe a few more dollars) to complete it.

Good luck.

Cliff, The jack screw trick did not work for me, so I used a Dremel with a cutting wheel to cut through my seal and remove with a small pair of channel lock pliers and a small chisel. Messy, crud, risky - but it worked. Once the seal is out, you can get to the edge of the race through the proofmeter drive opening with a long thin punch - the race came right out. I was VERY careful to not damage the race or the pump housing while cutting the oil seal out, but did nick it in a few places (JB Weld filled them in nicely). Do yourself a favor and go ahead and replace the needle bearing NOW - it is cheap insurance. A few needles had come out of my bearing and got pulverized by the pistons - but not before damaging the lip of the piston bores in the cast housing and siezing two of the six small pistons in the bore. Steel, cast iron, and pressing pressure do not mix well in low tolerance clearance applications. I had to use the Dremel again with the small cone shaped grinding stone to round out and smooth the lip of these bores so the pistons would once again move smoothly in them.

BTW - my video did have footage of this jack screw and its use.

Just my $.02 on this.

Good luck,
Dan

Well, let me tell you :-)

Putting the basic rebuild kit is is pretty straight forward, just be aware they put the gaskets for the NAA and the larger 600/800 piston pump in the same package. Use ony ONE, the one that fits the best. If your ball valve seats needs to be replaced (they are in the kit), I suggest taking your pump to a New Holland dealer as they have a special tool that will make this much easier. Otherwise, you will make up a few more cuss words. Now comes the FUN part - your oil seal and possibly your needle bearings will probably need to be replaced. This is not easy, this is not in the rebuild kit, and there is no real easy way to get the old ones out. You have to get the bearing race out before you can get the oil seal out, before you can get the needle bearings out - and it is done from the inside out! I highly suggest obtaining a copy of the NAA Hydraulic Rebuild video from this site - it will really, REALLY, help you on this project.

Good luck,
Dan
