A while back someone had mentioned using button head bolts instead of the original fender rivets on the N. Does anyone know where to get these or what the part number is? I've looked on a few sites that sell N parts but none sell these button head bolts. I did find one selling the rivets though.

Socket Head Button Cap Screws are available through Mcmaster-Carr. Stainless or black oxide. www.mcmaster.com

The small (screw machine size) ones come in boxes of 50 or 100, so one box is a lifetime supply. I like the clean look of them and have an assortment of sizes now, so whenever I'm replacing screws on something I use them. I'm going to get some for my NAA fenders also; the old ones are rusted up pretty bad.

8Ner:

I found my 7/16" stainless buttonheads at a True Value hardware store. I left'em unpainted, I kinda like the extra "bling".

8N'er..... ....go to your local hardware store and buy the size of "BUTTON-HEAD" bolt that you need. Shirley you can figger out what size bolt you need by yourself. This is so much simpler and eazier than trying to learn how to rivet..... ....Dell

8Nr, button head bolts, as far as I know have a hex hole in the head to use to tighten. I don't know why anyone selling tractor parts would use these for rivet replacement, but your call.

Kelly, the reason we used them instead of rivets is,the rivets were not available at the time.We now stock both the fender rivets and the button head bolts.BTW...a little JB weld and sanding takes care of the hole for the allen wrench, but not the nuts on the under side. don b

Good idea about the JB Weld; I was thinking about the hex filling up with crud. Although what do you do if you ever want to take them off? I guess rivets have the same problem though; get out the drill.

I've heard of folks dripping a little candle wax into the hex head to prevent crud build-up. The wax comes right out with an allen wrench.

Happy Tractoring!
