I see this time you waited to try and throw your poison dart until the thread was on the second page. Afraid someone besides me will see it? Afraid that a woman -- a 53-year old woman at that -- can have fun learning and doing tractor restoration, regardless of outcome?

I won't read any more of your posts. And I am going to state here and now that you are simply a mean-spirited, nasty, intentionally undercutting person whose only interest in posting to me is to make your own small self feel better. Hell, you don't even use your own, real name. Coward! The first time you did this, I tried to turn away your nastiness with at least a calm word. But no more. You are not "warning" me or anything else. You are being intentionally, with conscious intent, mean. And that doesn't tell me about ME. It tells me about YOU.

Dawn

Add another vote for Dawn. ND's remarks were totally uncalled for. Keep up the good work, we're all watching the progress.

Funny how jerks always show up in a forum eventually. I knew the minute I found this site what the character of the place is, and all the folks standing up for Dawn proves it.

Happy Tractoring!

Dear Dawn,

Your work is an inspiration for us other new members of the N preservation family. I read every one of your posts, and the posts of all the other great folks on this site, and have learned much over the past few months. Thank you for your detailed progress reports and descriptions!

I seldom post but do read this site every day. For nearly 20 years I worked in a Federal re-training program that taught heavy equipment mechanics. With out fail, the women that had a real desire to learn and DO were far better than the men. Granted they did not have the body strength and had to improvise in a lot of cases in dealing with the heavier work, they were great in the details. They did not come with an attitude. The men after being shown something had the attitude of been there, seen that, while the women wanted to UNDERSTAND why you did something/procedure the way you did. It is plain to see you have the desire and drive to learn and do this. Just rememver those that poke and make fun are those that CANNOT DO! YOU CAN AND ARE. Hang in there.

Thanks for the support, John. I sure can empathize with the women in your program - wanting to learn but not being as physically strong as the men are. Whew! Thank goodness for you guys' "tips and tricks" ideas, and your emphasis on safety. I pay close attention to those things and it's all that has kept me from having an accident several times so far. Even then, that engine darned near got away from us the other day. Again and again, I am just plain impressed by the strength and ingenuity you guys show in the "simple" jobs you do and report on with such casual aplomb. The more I learn and experience, the more you guys are simply and really heroic in my eyes.

I was sitting here smiling thinking of something witty and articulate to say but then after reading the post I realized that No Doubt needs therapy. And there is nothing funny about that.

I have an older sister that waited to get help until she was in her late 40"s. She wasted most of he life away, what a shame.

Keep up the good work Dawn. I am behind you as are many more on this board. You (and Jo too) are our therapy.

Dawn, your doing a fine job with Arthur, and like others on here have said, none of us learned this stuff overnight, we have all been there, you should be proud of what you have, and will accomplish, you will have a nice tractor, that will bring you years of enjoyment.
I've been working on my project '53 Jubilee off and on, since 2002. there is nothing wrong with taking your time, and learning as you go. If i were'nt so far away, i'd load up my tools, and come out and give you a hand.

My reply to this cretin was just something I had to do for myself, not for him. He's obviously a lost cause.

But thanks for your words of support. I feel so blessed to have found your community and to be priveleged to learn from you all!!!

Even more, I understand now that I am learning far more here than about tractors or mechanics, and that every single moment I spend learning from you guys is pure gold.

A Fan of All of You,

Dawn I've been flowing your adventure in rebuilding your 8N and I have to tell you my hat's off to you. I think you are a courageous person whose not afraid to tackle any thing! I haven't felt the need to reply to many of your posts because I'm not an N series Ford owner and the folks on this site have much more expertise on the 8N than I. Don't be discouraged by the few people who, who for whatever reason (some sort of insecurity or petty jealousy?), feel a need to knock the work that you're doing. Just keep on coming back to all the supportive people that constructively respond to your questions. And keep on keepin' on.
Good Luck!

Dawn I was the horible N Parter here on this site for a long time. Years back I looked for 8Ns to part out for both money to feed my family and pervide parts for others. Spent a long time cleaning up parts, taking lots of pictures for EBay and also posting them here for others to see a part they needed to know something about long after the part was gone. I have probley 1,500 plus detailed close up pictures of 2,9 and 8Ns parts. I have lost count of how many I parted out but quit doing it. I was given so much crap I quit posting for a long time. I still only jump in once in a while when I see something I could help with or maybe post a picture of a rare part ect. I enjoyed working on tractors but did not like the negitive comments I used to get if I parted one. I took pride in the fact I sold only good parts and spent a long time getting them ready to sell. Then EBayer started selling tons on them all covered with grease, rust, paint ect and I did not want to do it anymore. Don't let it get you down cause there will allways be a few who like to cause trouble. Hang in there and if you get in over your head on this project don't feel bad about selling the parts on EBay. You could probley double your money you paid for the tractor and buy one allready fixed up! Mark H.

I am awfully glad you're back, Mark, though I didn't know at first that you were "missing" (because I had come onto the forum after that time). And I know all about having to provide for your family. People can say all they want about what a person "should" or "shouldn't" do, but that's immaterial if they've never walked in their shoes and don't know what it's like. As to parting tractors out, I don't know where else some kinds of parts could come from. That's just the way of things. Even the living creatures are made from the "dust" of those who went before. So don't go away again, ok? :-)

for one of those pix of an N in the scope, LOL.
I used to laugh my butt off, and Willy just kept on doing his thing, and now he's one of the "Go to guys" for answeres on assembly and pix of good clean parts and assemblies. Yer right Don, we lost alot of good sources of information. I'm already missing Phil's board, and the info that was available there. I'm guessing that by the end of the Arthur project, Dawn will be answering questions along with the best of them, just 'cause she's done it. We still use our "N's" in the day to day operation of our little farm, and this board, through Dawn's project has been a source of my constant learning experience. I've viewed alot of these restorations with a fair amount of skepticism over the years, and feel fairly confident this one won't end up as shop clutter. So Dawn, you're in good company, you have great mentors, and when a detractor starts to give you flack, just smile and wave at 'em. third party image

Zen. MOST of us got addicted to these old jewels for just the same reasons you are beginning to follow and understand and we are happy to count you as one of our own. One bad attitude isn't gonna come close to spoiling that for us and it won't for you either.
If you let the naysayers get to you, they accomplish what they set out to do. Indifference to that is the truest form of self confidence.

dawn keep it up, you are doing good, you are delving into depths that alot of people never have yet, probably NO DOUBT,, just because maybe his project ended up on ebay, thats not your problem,. and you know what if it does thats your perogitive,, I have a 2n I was rebuilding, alot was original so it only need minor stuff, A nICER 9n came along and now I am giving up on the 2n, you keep your experience with arthur positive and dont let him worry you, he may even have a trailer queen that he bought all done and is jealous you are getting your tractor finished and reworked from the bottem up, AND will actually use it,, take a breath look back on your accomplishments, and know that when you have a problem you can come back here and your "friends" will be here to help out, even if we know we can get it done eassier, at least you are doing it, and you are doing it with out any of the NEW tools,, good job,, forget about the handful of losers who just love to get under someones nerves, you said your piece,, let him be a doubter, you are a doer, congrats on the progress, and hope you got all the blue grease out,, I know the feeling when I grease my tractors, you try to be as careful as you can and like you said a sneak attack, have a great day,pat

Dawn - remember, the World Wide Web is made up of all kinds. I know how tough it is to take the bad with the good when it comes to a community of people. There are a few people here I let get under my skin early on, and we had our share of dialog back and forth - but you know what? For every ONE person that is rude and abrasive to you, there are at least ONE HUNDRED or more that are decent, supportive, and believe in the old addage that if you can't say something nice - don't say anything at all. I no longer worry, or seek, the advice of these guys any more - there are plenty who are willing to help with a kind atttitude. Rustbucket was the first time I had ever seen the inside of an engine as well, there were a few guys who snubbed me on that project also, but you know what? My NAA is purring just fine now, I did it myself, and had a lot of great people who helped me work it out and made it all possible.

Don't let the few guys who never learned common courtesy, or maybe just have a problem with women doing something other than sewing, cause you a minutes pause. WE are here for you and will happily help you when the few others won't - and you WILL get it done! If you haven't stopped by now, you have got the perserverance(sp) to finish what you started.

Keep your chin up, you are doing just fine.

Dan

I had to go to page 2, just to see what"s going on. Don"t let this guy get to you, everybody has to start somewhere. I"ve been "restoring" my Massey Pony for the past 2 years, working on it when I can, and when the weather is right. I know some of the guys on here could have finished it in a few months, but I"ll finish it eventually. Getting it done is great, but the actual "doing" is a big part of the enjoyment. You"re tackling things that a lot of more experienced people wouldn"t, so you can be proud of that. If someone wants to belittle you because you"re new and inexperienced, ignore them. I"m fairly sure that this guy wasn"t born knowing it all, and he was green at one time. Enjoy and learn from the good people here, and don"t let one bad apple get to you.... By the way, I"ve been mechanicing my whole life. and still ask "stupid" questions fairly often :)
