I am the same guy with the bale spear question, by the way this is a great forum, I am a first time tractor owner and have pick up a lot of great info on my 9n. This week if fixed my problem of the old girl shutting off when she gets hot (a $10.34 resistor converting 12v to 6v went bad) now just one more mystery problem. Every 2-3 weeks I come out and she has leaked all of her anti-freeze. I fill it back up add some barseal and she goes along great for another 2-3 weeks and boom same problem. Hoses are good clamps are on tight, I can't see any obvious leaks from the rad. I am stumped, that does not take a lot but I am stumped none the less.

Is your tractor gettin' hot enough for Bars leak to work. Usually pretty good stuff.

First check your other fluids and make sure it is not leaking into that. Crankcase, and maybe transmission or clutch housing. Not sure if there is a freeze plug there or not, which could be leaking. Are you parking it on dirt or gravel or on a asphalt or concrete area. A slow leak from a radiator is almost not noticable on dirt, but shows up readily on a hard surface. Since you are using antifreeze, make sure you have not pets that can get around it. Poisonous.

I am parking it inside on gravel, I put a red bucket under it after every use, and when it leaks it fills the bucket

Where are you putting the bucket? Under the overflow tube? If so, maybe you are just working it harder on those occasions, and she"s getting warm enough to spit out the extra that she don"t want. Are you over filling the radiator? Are you losing ALL the anti-freeze, or just enough to bring it to the correct level? And.... I just gotta ask... if you use a BLUE bucket, does it fill up as fast as the RED bucket :) Just kidding ya about the mention of the RED bucket :)

I am putting the "red bucket" under the front axel. When she does leak she take a jug of anti freeze to fill her back up.

I would think you have either a leak in the radiator, probably behind the fan shroud so you can see it, or perhaps the water pump itself is leaking. Have you noticed any dampness or drips from the bottom of the pump? Since a jug of antifreeze is a gallon, I would think the leak is about 1/3 down on the system. Next time you fill it up and then run it and then park it. Put your bucket under it, but also take the radiator cap off. It just might allow air in fast enough that you can then spot the leak.
