8N sometimes hard to crank.

I got my 8N back running this past weekend. It seems like the first several tried it cranks pretty easily. But after awhile, it gets where it won"t crank anymore. I finally realized today that a couple of things were causing the problem. One, the carb was full of gas. I drained out all the gas and let it dry out. Two, I removed my spark plugs and they had oily gunk all over them. I cleaned them up real well and reinstalled them. It started right up with no problem. My question is, why is my carb flooding like it is? The float maybe? And, why are my plugs getting so nasty? I"m not positive that the plugs I"m using are the correct ones...I have Bosch Super 7516 plugs installed...an alternate number on the plug box is WR 9 FC. I was told at the auto parts store it was a substitute for the ones I needed. Thanks for any help!

If your carb fllods it could be a few things. Stuck float, dirty needle/dirt in the seat, or a bad float that has a hole in it.

Dell, thanks. I was thinking about ordering new sparkies, but if that's a good one that I have, I'll stick with it.

Alvin..... ...Bosch 7516 is the stock number for the Bosche WR9FC sparkie number. And yes, the WR9FC cross-references to the popularly recommended AutoLite AL-437.

Sorry, I don't have enny idea about yer carb..... ..respectfully, Dell

Had a similar problem with my 9N
sitting under a lean to all winter.
Installed AL437's (took out 296?)
tapped the carb with a block of wood.
Jumped with 12 volts and it is now
running like last summer.
still have to choke a little under
load in order to keep running but I
figure I will rebuild the carb later
this year.

Before you rebuild the carb you might want to make sure that your carb to manifold gasket is not leaking and that your manifold to head gasket is not leaking. You're running lean that's why you have to choke it to get it to run. Could be that air is bypassing the carb. If you don't have a problem with air leaks then clean and rebuild the carb.
