Friend has a 1958 8N, needs to rebuild the brakes. He is having trouble getting the old brakes apart. Is there an adjustor that can be backed out to loosen tight shoes? Any suggestions on how to "dissassemble" the old stuck, brakes?

Thanks for the help and the info on year/model. I'll have him check the model/serial number again. Probably wouldn't hurt to get the year and model right!

Oliver, the 8N was only made from '48 to '52. Check to make sure what you really have. The 8N has the serial number just above the starter on the engine on a flat surface. All 8N's start with serial number as 8N*****. If you really have a 1958 it is a bigger tractor.

They adjust with a screwdriver or flat bar by sticking it in the slot in the back plate and clicking the serrated thingy until it is loose enough to slide the drum off. They quit making the 8N in 1952, so a 1958 would not be an 8N.
