I have had the Rods rebushed and conditioned, I am assembling the pistons to the rods. The arrow on top of the piston faces the front of tractor. However, which side of the tractor does the bearing locks face if I am sitting on the tractor?

Please help!
thanks again for all the help on this board!!

Nova, The rods should be numbered 1 thru 4. The numbers should be on the cam side, or right side if you sit on the tractor. The numbers may be hard to see, but they should be located somewhere by the cap bolts. The caps are also numbered to match the rod. Make sure the numbers on the caps and on the rods, are together, (same side). Good luck!!!

Well, I really don't think on a low rpm engine it makes a whole lot of difference which way the bearing tabs face, but looking from the back of the engine, they should be on the left. It doen't make any difference which side the rod is numbered on or the the oil squirt holes, as long as the bearing cap is on correctly. Do not re-use the old lock nuts on the rods, buy new. My $.02

Tim, You are more than likely correct, but I was telling him what the manual says about it.
