Jack shaft. Which one should I use?? If I pull the jack shaft are there bearings I have to worry about falling into the tranny?? I'm haveing to change flywheels on this tractor I'm working on because the ring gear has missing teeth, so the clutch has to come off. Just don't want to run into problems and since I have never pulled a jack shaft out of an N tranny I want to make sure parts will not fall when and if I do it that way.
Thanks

Nothing wrong with using an old input shaft for a pilot tool but for under $10 you can get a pilot set at Harbor Freight that will work on just about anything.

old..... ...nope, go ahead and use yer 4-bolt tranny jackshaft as a clutch allignment tool. Ain't nuttin gonna fall apart, bearing rollers are caged.

Remember, clutch disc hub is "offset" and long side faces tranny.

Replace yer tranny input shaft seal, $3, cheap..... ...Dell

Thanks Dell, I'm usto doing trannys on the Chev trucks and in them bearing fall all over the place and wanted to make sure it wouldn't happen on this N hybred I'm makeing from a 2N and 9N. No problem as far as the seal the tranny jack shaft is from a bad tranny any how. Or should I say a stuck tranny.

I use a transmission input shaft from a ford car.The alignment tools dont work as well.Always check the new disc for free fit on the tractors input shaft. The clutch and pressure plate have ford car part numbers on them. One tractor parts co was getting 49.00 for a timing gear while the same gear cost 8.00 from a dealer in nos car parts.

Also helps to take a file to the splines in the clutch disk. Five minutes of filing on it on the side that faces the transmission can sometimes save a half hour of jerking and yanking trying to get the transmission shaft to go all the way in the pilot bearing.

Like Dan said try it first. Then do some filing and try it again. It does make a big difference. My father proved it to me by filing one side of the clutch plate and then handing the disk and an old Ford input shaft that we always use for a pilot shaft and said try the fit. It slid right on the side he filed and it took me 30 seconds to get it on the side he had not.
